I actually think to Aden, Lexa was more than a mentor. She was kind of like a mother figure to him. The Nightbloods are taken away and brought to Polis to train, to become Commander, potentially. So, yeah, I think Lexa, because they had such a close relationship, she was not just a mentor, but also a mother
